PETER HELDEROP
After graduating as a speech therapist at the University of Applied Sciences in Leiden (Netherlands), Peter Halderop opened his first practice in 1989. From 1991 onwards, he opened eight other practices, two of which were in dental practices. In this way, he creates a close contact with the dentists, works with the patients of these clinics and as a result - only benefits for everyone.
Nils Hulsink
Nils Hulsink is a Myobrace Educator at MRC Europe. He joined Myofunctional Research Co. Europe in 2004 and has since spoken to thousands of practitioners about the benefits of myofunctional orthodontic treatment and habit correction. Due to his extensive knowledge of early intervention, he has lectured at numerous international dental and orthodontic conferences and has provided training to orthodontists, general dentists, and speech therapists across Europe. Before joining MRC Europe, Mr. Hulsink held various positions in orthodontic clinics.
WHAT IS OMFT?
WHAT IS OMFT? (ORAL MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY)
Therapy offering therapeutic exercises aimed at restoring the disturbed balance of work of the oral muscles.
Harmful habits cause an imbalance between the oro-facial muscles, which in turn can lead to changes in the face and morphology.
For example, harmful oral habits, including mouth breathing, thumb sucking, etc., combined with improper swallowing can lead to protrusion of the upper jaw. The tongue pushes the teeth forward, and the lips, which do not close during mouth breathing, offer no resistance.
Incorrect use of the muscles and the lack of back pressure in this case leads to a different shape of the jaws and / or teeth. There is a functional malocclusion on the face. If we want to restore balance, it is obvious that the function of the muscles involved must first be changed.
Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach is needed for a long-lasting result. Dentists and orthodontists are concerned with the shape and morphological abnormalities of the teeth, and speech therapists are concerned with the function of the oro-facial muscles.
Dr. GABRIELA LUKANOVA
Dr. Gabriela Lukanova completed her dental education at the Sofia Medical Academy in 1992.
The relationship with speech therapists also began in 2010 by passing a number of post-graduate trainings in Talk tools:
-Early Intervention: Oral Placement Therapy for Children with Down Syndrome.
-Feeding therapy: A sensory Motor Approach (Nutrition therapy: Sensory-motor approach) by Lori Overland
-Feeding skills in the Down Syndrome Population from birth to adulthood
-A Three-Part Treatment Plan for Oral Placement Therapy by Sarah Rosenfeld
-webinar - "Orthodontics, Airway, Apnea and OPT for the Down Syndrome Population"
-webinar -Pediatric Dysphagia: Impacts of the Cranial Nerve System
